General Membership Meeting

The Commodore called the meeting to order. She introduced herself and the other officers. The Commodore noted the pre-and post-meeting meetings at various eateries nearby. She offered the minutes of the previous meeting for approval, which was given.

Paul Woodcock gave the Safety Minute on campfire safety.

Harmon Everett exhorted the members to volunteer as trip leaders. The Fleet Captain then passed out copies of a checklist of how to be a trip leader. Various members added comments.

The Purser gave the financial report. The club is within $10.00 of the projected budget for the year.

The Commodore reminded the members of the Holiday Party, December 17th.

The Boatswain gave the membership report. There were two new members; Orlando Morgan and family, and Wayne Leith.

The Fleet Captain gave the paddling report. Recent trips included:
Sept. 1: Club picnic, Lake 288;
Oct. 1: San Marcos River, San Marcos to Staples;
Oct. 1-2: Octpaddlefest
Up-coming trips were announced:
Oct. 15: Cedar Bayou;
Oct. 21-23: San Marcos River, Staples to Fentress;
Nov. 11-12: San Marcos River, Fentress to Luling;
An opportunity to paddle the Pecos River Nov. 4-16 or Dec. 9-11, was announced.

Paul Woodcock spoke about the protests of the Saddle Rock pipeline project.

Janice Baker introduced the speaker for the evening, Kim Head, who gave a fascinating talk about his sea-kayaking trip in the Haida Gwaii (formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands) off the Pacific coast of Canada.

The Commodore thanked the speaker and Janice gave him his prize. The Commodore then called the meeting to a close, as everyone was too busy stacking chairs to vote on it. |

The Commodore called the meeting to order.
Paul Woodcock discussed the definition of “family membership”, and whether it should include non-married couples, or adult children.
The Fleet Captain talked about the ACA insurance/guest paddler fee issue. It was agreed that the ACA insurance contract be taken as written, and that HCC members need not join the ACA, or pay $5.00 per trip in order to be covered. It was also agreed to change the HCC membership application to reflect that decision.
The Purser gave the monthly financial report. HCC has $5,343.43 in a cash account, and $21,106.41 in a CD. These numbers did not include expenses from the club picnic.
Cubs score 5 in the top of the eighth!!! Go, Cubs!
The Boatswain reported two new members; Orlando Morgan and Wayne Lieth.
The Fleet Captain spoke on enlisting more trip leaders. Harmon Everett volunteered to give a regular request for trip leaders at the membership meetings.
The Vice-Commodore spoke about upcoming speakers at the membership meetings, and suggested that we might have club T-shirts made.
The Commodore announced the schedule of meetings for 2017, and gave a brief mention of planning for the holiday party.
Harmon Everett discussed the Safety Minutes.
