Week of Rivers
June-July, 2016
by David Jacobs
On my way to the WOR, on Saturday, June 25th I won the 1st place
K-1 Sea kayak
trophy in the Brookville, Indiana Canoefest, using my STELLAR S18S surfski.
Also did a section of the Chattahoochee (I) in my S18S surfski, Thursday, June 30th, near Duluth, GA; Then, the Nantahala River (II) in my Jackson Allstar play boat, including going off of
Picnic Rock, and over
Nantahala Falls
(III), Saturday, July 2nd;
This
GOOGLE Maps link is from Tuesday, July 5th, on
Section IX of the French Broad: Class III and IV white water running over ledges and through rock gardens! Beautiful scenery! Saw two bald eagles that day.
Did the
Pigeon Gorge
(II and III+) in my play boat, Wednesday, July 6th; and the
Middle Ocoee (III's and IV's) in my Liquid Logic Remix 69 creek boat, Friday, July 8th. Side-surfed "
Hell Hole" for the first time, this year, on the Middle Ocoee. I'm not in the videos above, but you can see what those places are like.
Even with taking some days off to rest, I was too tired this year to do Bull Sluice (IV+) on the Chattooga (Me on river left in 2011,
Me on river right in 2012) and the rest of
Chattooga section 4 (IV and IV+). Also didn't try the "
N.O.C. wave" this year, where I injured my shoulder in 2014.
