Speaker: |
|
Darrin Lewer |
Description: |
|
The Night Sky – what we can identify and appreciate with a pair of binoculars.
What attracted Darrin Lewer to astronomy was the peacefulness of the night sky and the ability to see things in a different way. He observed that as we are looking up into the night sky we are seeing a galaxy that is millions of years old – it is “looking back in time”.
Mr. Lewer has been an amateur astronomer since high school and graduated from Texas A&M after studying history and political science; however he was a constant volunteer at the Observational Astronomy Lab while attending A & M.
Darrin Lewer is the Retail Manager for Land, Sea and Sky on Richmond Avenue. He is also a member of the Houston Astronomical Society and a volunteer at the George Observatory in Brazos Bend State Park.
Mr. Lewer will be discussing the night sky and what we will be able to identify with binoculars when we are camping or as Frank Ohrt has aptly stated “when we’re stuck on a sandbar!”
