The Commodore called the meeting to order. He introduced the officers, and noted that Honey Leveen would act as temporary Boatswain, and Paul Woodcock as auxiliary Fleet Captain. Terri Morgan, Terry Herdlicka, and Jessica Kuhn were absent.

For the Safety Minute, the Commodore discussed the deaths of two persons when a Houston Fire Department rescue boat overturned during the Memorial Day floods. He noted that the victims did not have properly fitted PFDs, and he repeated the rule that, when attempting any rescue, one should never risk becoming another victim.

The Commodore asked for, and received, approval of the minutes of the September meeting.

Christy Long announced the slate of proposed officers for 2016. They were: Honey Leveen, Commodore; Fran Wilcox, Vice-commodore; Natalie Wiest, Fleet Captain; Bob Naeger, Purser; Frank Ohrt, Recorder; Terry Herdlicka, Boatswain; and John Rich, Newsletter Editor.

The temporary Boatswain reported that there were no new members, and no non-member visitors.

The temporary Fleet Captain took reports of recent club trips:
- Tom Douglas reported on the Cypress Creek Regatta.
- Natalie Weiss reported on a trip on Champions Lake.
- Will Blumentritt reported on the Cedar Bayou Voyager paddle. a trip on Spring Creek.
- Ann Derby announced that the San Marcos River is too cold for the drunken tubers, and that it is therefore open for paddlers again.
- Several members spoke about the OctPaddle Fest at Huntsville State Park.
Upcoming events and paddles were announced: (It's cooling off! Let's go paddle!)
- Nov. 1: San Bernard River
- Nov. 7: Goliad Paddle Festival, San Antonio River.
- Nov. 14: Neches River.
- Nov. 21: Columbus Loop, Colorado River.
- Dec. 5: Cypress Wonderland (Lake Charlotte).
- An overnight camping trip on the Neches between Christmas and New Year's Day, to be confirmed later.

John Rich spoke briefly about the current and up-coming newsletters, noting his on-going posting of past newsletters on the website

Paul Comstock, of the Houston Area Sea Kayakers, gave an excellent presentation on the history of the Erie Canal in New York, and his recent trip on it.

The Commodore adjourned the meeting, and invited everyone to the customary post-meeting meeting at Jax Restaurant.
