Our November 11, 2015 HCC program is titled, “Birding and Paddling”. It will be presented by our own Cindy Bartos. Cindy will present the kayak and canoe as quiet water craft that allow you to hear and see wildlife in their natural habitat. We’ll learn tips and suggestions on how to observe and/or identify wild birds that we encounter as we paddle our bays and wooded streams.
As a child, Cindy’s family did a lot of traveling and camping on summer vacations. Everywhere they went they picked up pamphlets or bought field guides so they could learn the names of the plants they’d see on a hike or the birds that flew overhead. That experience encouraged her love of being outdoors, which led to paddling, which led to the challenge of identifying the birds she’d see while on the water.
Cindy and her husband John joined the Houston Canoe Club in 1986. She’s served as HCC’s Fleet Captain and chaired committees for the Southwestern Canoe Rendezvous. Her mom signed her up for National Audubon many years ago. She and John and have been members of Houston Audubon for about 10 years.
