AUGUST 12, 2015 HCC Features Summer Fun at the Movies
Enjoy some fresh popcorn and a fun, informative video at HCC movie night, August 12, 2015.
I’ve been an HCC member for seven brief years. I’ve not paused very long to wonder why HCC’s founders, mostly canoeists, remain devoted to their canoes, even though easier-to-paddle kayaks are widely available.
Our August 12 program will feature a short film titled, “Bill Mason’s “Path of the Paddle”, part 1, “Solo Canoe Basics”. Bill was a Canadian canoeing icon. This is a classic instruction video that demonstrates the joys of canoe mastery in a relaxed wilderness setting.
Here’s a quote from Bill Mason, “Wilderness canoeing is a creative art. The paddling positions and endless combinations of strokes harmonize with the ever-changing moods.”
I’ve seen the film and honestly didn’t realize how much pure skill, beauty, and artistry canoeing can entail. I think HCC members will also enjoy the scenic beauty of this film and glean more
about why some are committed to canoeing, resisting the urge to switch to kayaks.
Long time HCC member and canoeist Ann Derby knows a lot about HCC history. She will be on hand to field discussion questions and offer additional insights.
