HOUSTON CANOE CLUB GENERAL MEETING
June 10th, 2015
Bayland Park Community Center
Recorder: Frank Ohrt

7:00 The Commodore called the meeting to order and introduced the officers. He announced that Jessica
Kuhn would be our temporary webmaster. Let's all be VERY nice to her.

7:05 For the Safety Minute, the Commodore noted the prudence of calling off planned trips if the weather
and water conditions were unfriendly (or downright dangerous).

7:10 Recent changes to the website were discussed, and ideas for further improvements were solicited.

7:15 The Commodore noted that several positions among the officers were going to be vacant soon, and
asked for volunteers to serve as officers in the coming year.

7:16 The Purser was absent, but the members were assured that the club is in good financial shape.

7:18 Terri Morgan, acting as temporary Boatswain, introduced Larry Peterson, a member who was at his
first meeting. She also introduced several visitors: Betty Jackson, Robert Elliot, Nancy Mullis, and Nan
Jester.

7:20 The Commodore reported on the flood damage at the San Marcos River Retreat, and showed slides
of the campground and surrounding area. We should all consider offering to go up and lend Tom a
hand.

7:27 The Fleet Captain asked for trip reports. Reports included: a trip on Armand Bayou, by Phil Matticks; a
two day trip on Caddo Lake, by Terri Morgan; a trip on Sheldon Lake, by Honey Leveen; a trip on the
Upper Guadeloupe by Christy Long and Debbie Snow; a trip at very high water on Lake Charlotte and
Champion Lake, by Joe Coker and Dave Kitson.

Planned trips were announced, and Terri asked for suggestions for a "moonlight" paddle sometime
soon. The upcoming Texas Water Safari and the annual Week of Rivers were mentioned, for those
looking for something a little less relaxing.

7:55 The Vice-Commodore introduced Skip Johnson, who gave a presentation on his experiences building wooden canoes of all sizes and shapes.
