We are very pleased to have Karla Klay as the speaker at our January 14, 2015 HCC meeting. Karla is the Executive Director and founder of Artist Boat (www.artistboat.org). She has degrees in fine art and marine biology and was raised among dolphins and sharks in the Florida Keys.

Artist Boat’s mission is to promote awareness and preservation of coastal margins and the marine environment through the disciplines of science and the arts.

Karla will tell us more about Artist Boat and what it does. She will also describe its new Coastal Heritage Preserve Initiative, which has just received a multi-million dollar grant. This initiative is in its formative stage. It will involve promoting awareness and conservation of coastal margins. It is envisioned as a conservation area and environmental education center on 367 acres of land on West Galveston Island, adjacent to West Bay. This estuary is a critical piece of a multi-agency program to protect and restore critical habitats in the area.
