"Powderhorn Ranch Becomes Largest Conservation Land Purchase in Texas History" (Calhoun County, TX)
"A multi-partner coalition including the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation today announced the purchase of the 17,351-acre Powderhorn Ranch along the Texas coast in Calhoun County. The acquisition will conserve a spectacular piece of property that is one of the largest remaining tracts of unspoiled coastal prairie in the state. At $37.7 million it is the largest dollar amount ever raised for a conservation land purchase in the state. In years to come, Powderhorn Ranch is expected to become a state park and wildlife management area..."

"Kayakers breach secure area at JFK airport" (New York City, NY)
"Two kayakers adrift in Jamaica Bay with just one paddle unwittingly breached Kennedy Airport’s $300 million perimeter detection system.
They could have been spotted by a boat patrol — except there wasn’t one. Jordan Crooms and Anthony Giglio set out at 11:30 p.m. Friday from a park across the bay from the airport.
