Wallisville

We had a very pleasant trip to Wallisville today. We launched from the east side of the Trinity River under the I-10 bridge and paddled up to Lake Pass. Radar gauge was about 8.3 on Lake Charlotte. We had to traverse a couple of mats of what I believe are water hyacinths as we neared Lake Charlotte, but did so with no significant difficulty. We wandered among the cypress trees on the south end of the lake before heading back.
On the way back, we attempted to enter Lake Miller using the channel from Lake Pass and as we were nearing the entrance to the lake, we encountered a thick mat of water hyacinths with logs embedded just inches below the surface and we were not able to traverse this area by paddling through and did not attempt more aggressive means of getting through. It was a very pleasant trip. We saw a lot of herons, including a huge one enjoying a snake for an early lunch, a few alligators and numerous other birds.
