HCC’s 50th anniversary planning committee is busy working to create an especially memorable year for HCC members and friends. Our committee met at 5:30 PM on February 12, 2014, before our regular meeting. We do need your talent. You are invited to attend our next planning meeting at 5:30 PM on March 12, 2014, in the room where we have our general meeting. Please join us, bring your enthusiasm, and if you’re hungry, bring your own brown bag dinner.

The main topic on our committee’s agenda is planning the big anniversary party. This event will be held Saturday, October 11th - mark your calendars! The venue is the
Bay Area Community Center in
Clear Lake Park in
Seabrook on Mud Lake, just downstream from Armand Bayou.
The facility will hold over 400 people. It has a full commercial kitchen, bayou access and plenty of parking. The 50th Anniversary Committee plans to invite current and former club members, the media, other paddling clubs, and politicians to the big event. We hope for an attendance of about 200.
At last month’s meeting, the committee decided to cater the event. We assigned the process of culling through old membership rosters to locate and invite former HCC members. We are formulating the party schedule. It will probably start with a paddle and/or flotilla with decorated boats. The flotilla will end within a short walk of the party site. There may be water-based relays and/or skills demos. Then, we’ll have a large, family, friend and visitor oriented, catered 50th anniversary party with a program.
A budget for the celebration will be presented to membership. It will require a vote of the membership to approve since it will be an expenditure of over $500.
Additional 50th Anniversary Events
Special HCC 50th anniversary logo printed Custom apparel is now available at prices that average $15-$25 per shirt. The logo was donated to HCC by our long-time member, Ann Derby. You may choose just about any type of apparel you can imagine (long-sleeve and short sleeve, crew neck and v-neck T-shirts, hoodies, etc.), in almost any color. We have large and small logos, located above the breast or right in the middle of the garment, on the front or back. They can also embroider the logo. Commemorative Waterline Stories
In addition to the party and custom logo apparel, you will notice monthly special commemorative Waterline stories written by long-term HCC or former HCC members. The stories will describe HCC’s history and include reminiscences.
