On July 11 I joined in a group scouting Green’s Bayou for the Green’s Bayou Coalition and their project to provide more and better access points to the bayou in a continuation paddle trail. Hike and bike trails are in development as well.

If you’ve paddled some distance from the Green's Bayou Park put-in, you may have noticed the golf course at Brock Park. There’s a really nice spot there to access the bayou, but at this time it’s not open except by special permission; likewise the take-out at a developing park very close to the Woodforest Boulevard crossing.

It’s been a very long time since I have paddled Green’s, and that was with Grady Hicks and his young son. My daughter Susanne was about the same age as Travis Hicks and they’re both students at UT in Austin right now so you know it’s been a while. Grady was part of our exploration team, as well as Steve Hupp and Eric Ruckstuhl of Bayou Preservation Association, two professionals from the National Park Service, and two interns at BPA. We had a very pleasant day on the water; I’d forgotten how vegetated and navigable this stretch is and we can all look forward to more and better access. Hooray for another area bayou getting preservation and park development.
