Lavaca-Navidad River Authority (LNRA) will sponsor a free Riparian workshop and BBQ lunch at noon on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Brackenridge Recreation Complex in the Harry Hafernick Center at 891 Brackenridge Parkway, Edna, TX  77957.   A flyer is attached with information on the workshop and how to RSVP. We are presenting this free workshop in place of the annual Clean Rivers Program Steering Committee meeting, and the public is very welcome.  I will very much appreciate your sharing this information. We are bringing in Steve Nelle, retired from NRCS to conduct the workshop.  Thank you, Sylvia

Texans love our many miles of beautiful streams.  But how well do you understand the inner workings of creeks and rivers?  This workshop will focus on the interaction of hydrology, flooding, sediment movement, vegetation and practical management.

 

Participants will learn:

• Why floods and floodplains are important
• How healthy riparian areas improve water quality
• How groundwater is connected to streamflow
• Why riparian vegetation is important
• What hinders the proper working of a creek or river
• How landowners can be good stewards of riparian areas

After this workshop, you will appreciate creeks, rivers, and riparian areas in a new and different way.  The workshop will be beneficial to landowners, conservation officials, water managers, teachers, students as well as the general public.
