"Inmates jump in to help kids after canoe overturns" (Vancouver, WA)
"Inmates on a work crew jumped into action Wednesday when a canoe overturned in a creek in Vancouver, sending three children into cold, fast-moving water. A 16-year-old boy was able to swim to shore. The other two children involved, who are 8 and 11 years old, only managed to swim to some wood debris in the water. Inmates Larry Bohn and Nelson Pettis were doing work as part of a maintenance crew and jumped in the water to help the stranded boys..."

"Sandy Robson had a big smile on her face as she paddled her kayak to the shores of Kochi on Saturday morning. For her, each yard she covers is a big step towards achieving her dream and each shore she steps on to is a feather in her cap. This 45-year-old kayaker from Western Australia has taken one more step in her grand mission of rowing around the world to cover 55,000 km in a single kayak. She paddles eight to 10 hours covering about 60 km every day..."

"Canoe liveries sue to stop fun tax" (Westfall Township, PA)
"Westfall is being sued by two canoe liveries challenging the township's new fun tax. Kittatinny Canoes and Indian Head Canoes have asked the Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary injunction preventing the township from enforcing the tax before it is heard in court. Westfall supervisors passed a 1 percent tax in December on anything considered entertainment where admission is charged. The liveries argue in court papers that the township adopted the tax under the color of state law and that taxing the liveries is in violation two federal laws..."
