HOUSTON CANOE CLUB GENERAL MEETING
September 12, 2012

The meeting was called to order by Joe Coker. He announced that a nominating committee had been set for elections. They will get him a slate of candidates for October. He also announced that Honey will organize the Christmas party.
Kevin Carpenter asked about the requirements to be a trip leader. There was a brief discussion concerning ACA sanctioning and the Fleet Captain’s vetting function. Due to time constraints, it was agreed that further discussion would be tabled until our next meeting.
Honey Leveen gave our new members report:
- David who had paddled in Arkansas - He was referred by a friend.
- Redid – lifetime canoeist from up north - He found us on the Internet.
- Honey also said that the friends of Sargeant Library have a canoe trip on Oct. 13th in the Matagorda/Freeport area.
Harmon Everett reported that we have about $4,200 in the checking account. The IRS has cashed our
501-C4 re-application check. There were 500,000 other non-profits that had their status revoked.
Tim Garber announced a number of activities:
- Lewis is talking about his book at REI;
- There is a Paddlefest in Corpus Christi;
- The HCC Dutch Oven Fest @ Huntsville on Oct 5-7;
- and Dragon Boats later this year.
Trip Reports:
- Christy did Village Creek with 14 people, putting in at 418. It was hot with low water and lots of logs and they had to wait two hours for the shuttle.
- Paul did his Kansas trip near a wildlife area.
- Harmon cancelled the club-sponsored Sabine trip due to weather, but did it on his own.
Tom Douglas had HCC 30-year anniversary newsletters for give-aways
We had a two part program which included a film called "Life Jackets Float" on the importance of a PFD, plus another video called "The Kayak Roll" on how to roll your kayak.
