About this event
The rivers came up unexpectedly and I am changing the previously scheduled lake paddle for one of the rivers. Right now I have my eye on Cadron Creek, which is at 12 feet on the Guy gage. It will recede quickly, so we will monitor its rate of decline. Final decision Thursday at 5:00pm. The fallback plan is a confirmed Remmel dam release.
CADRON CREEK:
We will meet at the Highway 285 and Cadron Creek at 9:00am. This is the take-out where we will consolidate a few boats and leave a couple of trucks. Then we will go to the put-in at Hwy 65 / Ozark Dr. and the river. This is the segment with the Rock of Gibraltar.
THE PLAN:
We will launch by 10:00AM and enjoy the 10.6-mile ride
FORECASTED CONDITIONS:
- 75-85 degF
- Mostly sunny
BRING:
kayak, paddle, PFD, sun protection (long-sleeves, hat, sunglasses, etc.), water or drink with electrolytes, snack, and anything else that will make your experience enjoyable.
DIRECTIONS:
One way is to take Hwy 65 at Conway and go past the Walmart in Greenbriar and turn left on Mountain Drive. After a little less than a mile, turn right onto Burkett Flat Road and follow it about four or five miles to where it dead ends at the "T" intersection with Hwy 285. Turn right (at the Bono Baptist Church), and go to the Cadron Creek river access (on the left before crossing the river).
The other way is to continue a little longer on Hwy 40 to Hwy 25 in Conway and continue onto Hwy 285 at Wooster.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If not a current member of the Houston Canoe Club, please fill out the online waiver on www.houstoncanoeclub.org before showing up.
