San Marcos River Rendezvous Clean Up – March 7, 20...

Tom Goynes has sent out an email about the San Marcos clean-up. It's mostly the same routine as always, but he has suggested adding a section from his campground upstream to Cummings dam and back, and is also investigating trying to clear a logjam of water hyacinth up where the Blanco comes in to the San Marcos. That would require special equipment (especially a conveyor belt for getting the hyacinth into trucks), and may not happen.

Section 2, the long-time HCC section, has lately had more participants than trash. If anyone's interested in attacking an under-served section, I'm wiling to "lead"*. I'll report further developments as they occur.

* or we can draw straws, and the short straw has to be the leader.

On Saturday March 7, 2026, paddlers from all over Texas will participate in the longest single day river cleanup in the state – picking up trash along 60-90 miles of the San Marcos River. From just downstream of San Marcos down to Gonzales, canoeists, kayakers and rafters will be cleaning up the river and its banks.

In recent years, the Houston Canoe Club has cleaned River Section 2: from San Marcos River Retreat down to Sculls Crossing.

Stay tuned for more details as the date for the cleanup nears!
