Harris County Flood Control District, Proposition A is a proposal on the ballot for the November 5 election to increase investment in the maintenance of our regional flood infrastructure. HCFCD has added two public information meetings about Proposition A to its current series: on Thursday 10/24 at 11:00 AM and on Wednesday 10/30 at 11:00 AM.

The amount of infrastructure acreage maintained by HCFCD has doubled since 2000, but funding for maintenance has not increased during that time. Funds provided by Proposition A would permit HCFCD to address deferred maintenance and to enhance its response to newly arising issues such as downed trees, channel blockages, and sediment accumulation. Houstonians mark time by storms and floods. From Allison to Tax Day and from Harvey to Imelda, our region has experienced more than a dozen significant flooding events in the past 25 years. Harris County Flood Control District’s Proposition A is a proposal on the ballot for the November 5 election to increase investment in flood infrastructure. If approved by voters, additional maintenance funding would provide for infrastructure repairs to our channel network, including sediment removal, erosion repairs, and concrete replacements.

Additional maintenance funding provides resources for continued investments in reliable and stable flood infrastructure. Harris County Commissioners Court unanimously approved this measure to seek voter approval for additional investments for flood infrastructure maintenance.

Two virtual public meetings will be held on Wednesday 10/16 at Noon and on Thursday 10/17 at 6:30 PM. You can learn more about Proposition A and access links to the virtual meetings at https://www.hcfcd.org/Activity/Maintenance-Programs/Flood-Control-District-Proposition-A
