 PUBLIC NOTICE

30-Day Scoping Period for the Wallisville Lake Project Water Control Manual, Trinity River Basin, Texas

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District (USACE), has initiated development of a Water Control Manual (WCM) for the Wallisville Lake Project. The proposed WCM would guide day-to-day decisions about gate operations to meet the Project’s authorized purposes. The WCM would also ensure the structural and operational integrity of the structures. The proposed WCM would not change the current operations, the purpose of the Project, or increase or decrease storage allocations for flood risk management, water supply, or navigation.

The Wallisville Lake Project is a saltwater barrier project located on the Lower Trinity River in Chambers and Liberty Counties, Texas. USACE manages saltwater intrusion by opening and closing the Wallisville Lock and Dam depending on tides, river flows, winds, and drought conditions. The Trinity River is a major source of water for the Houston metro area, several smaller communities, and irrigation canal districts in the surrounding counties.

Our office would like to solicit any input you may have with respect to the Wallisville Lake Project WCM to assist us as we progress through the WCM development and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. Public scoping meetings are scheduled to be held on August 7, 2024 at the Wellness Center at Bayside, 2202 S. Main St. Anahuac, TX 77514 at 6:00 PM, and another on August 8, 2024 at Liberty City Hall Auditorium, 1829 Sam Houston St. Liberty, Texas 77575 at 6:00 PM. Information provided at the open house public scoping meeting will be available online starting August 5, 2024 at:
