On Joe Coker's recent wonderful HCC Lake Charlotte paddle, Tom Douglas and Linda Shead told us about a documentary titled "Living With the Trinity". It tells the story of the political process in East Texas that in 1973 defeated a plan of Dallas and Fort Worth interests to develop the Trinity River into a barge canal from Galveston Bay to Dallas. The project would have dammed the river at Wallisville and inundated the areas we paddle regularly. We watched it tonight and think it is a very worthwhile film with very good historical context. It is about an hour long, available on the PBS channel, which we accessed via Roku. There is also lots available to read online about the project, including a good Texas Monthly article from 1973:

This film could also be shown at a club meeting or held in reserve in case we had no speaker.
