One of my favorite locations paddling from Armand Bayou, is upstream into Horsepen Bayou. Our typical paddle trip goes as far as the campus of the University of Houston/Clear Lake where University Drive crosses. The stream is navigable for some distance upstream, and several more miles beyond is Sylvan Rodriguez Park, off Clear Lake City Boulevard. Apparently there has been an oil spill in the Sylvan Rodriguez park area. As far as I can tell, it has been contained and is likely not noticeable much farther downstream, but just to let you know...
Here is an excerpt from the Houston Chronicle: "The oil spill affected a two-mile stretch of Horsepen Bayou, which runs from Clear Creek and into Armand Bayou and all the way to Galveston Bay, and much of the focus of the clean up occurred near Sylvan Rodriguez Park."
