Aydonafta Bayou Black Friday Paddle (Turtle Bayou)

Location Address: White Park off I-10 circa Exit 812 (also marked
“Hankamer/Anahuac”)
Put-in: Meeting location is the waterfront/boatramp parking lot at White Park. Meeting
time is 9:00 a.m.
Take out at Same (ample parking)

Map/ Driving Routes to Turtle Bayou/White Park
From Houston: Drive east on Interstate-10. Take Exit 812 (also marked
“Hankamer/Anahuac”), and stay on the access road as it crosses over Turtle Bayou.
Turn right (south) onto Highway 61. After 0.1 mile, turn right onto White Park Road.
Just after White Park Road bends to the left, turn right onto the dirt road for about 0.1
mile to the waterfront parking lot. For those who are navigating by GPS, the coordinates
for the meeting point are 29°50'16.35"N 94°39'17.62"W.
From the Clear Lake Area: Take Highway 146 northeast to Interstate-10, then go east
on I-10 and follow directions as above.

Brief (one sentence) description: We’ll explore bayous connecting with Turtle Bayou
an up-and-back paddles on slow moving water. 6 to 8 miles. Beautiful, familiar paddle.

Full description:
Route of paddle:
(i) trip south form White Park put-in to log blockage on Whites Bayou and return, then
(ii) lunch/snack at White Park, then
(iii) under I-10 and Northeast in Lee Gully to blockage and return, then
(iv) possible side trip, time permitting, on the broad Turtle Bayou northwest, and return to
White Park.

Be sure to check the latest weather forecast to determine whether rain gear will be
needed. You will need a canoe or kayak, paddles, life jackets (one per person required
to be worn), lunch, plenty of drinking water (1/2 gallon per person), sunscreen, and
insect repellent. Participants must provide their own boats and transport them to the trip
site. Coordinator recommends a hat, sunglasses with a retainer strap.
