Getting There
Head west from Houston, on I-10 to the City of Columbus, then north to Howell Canoe Livery. Less than two hours from Houston.
The Trip
Howells has a very nice concrete launch. We set off at 10:30 am. Floated for a while then stopped for a lunch and a swim break. Watermelon was eaten at our second stop.
The river was sparkly, clear, and on the low side; with a few areas that we scraped the bottom. The water was moving and a few riffles were created in the bends of the river.
While on the river, we saw many birds and a few cattle and deer.
We floated until we reached the takeout around 2:30.
Please see the albums on the HCC Photo page for more photos.

We found some shade, ate some watermelon, then took a group picture.
