Houston Canoe Club
Board Meeting
March 7th, 2018
Bayland Park Community Center
Recorder: Frank Ohrt
The March board meeting was held by conference call.

Commodore Honey Leveen called the meeting to order. Officers participating were Ms. Leveen, Vice-commodore Alice Nissen, Purser Kent Walters, Fleet Captain Natalie Wiest, Boatswain Paul Woodcock, and Recorder Frank Ohrt.

Mr. Walters gave the Purser’s report. The club is ahead of budget for the year. Mr.Ohrt said he would bring the waivers and ACA fees from the San Marcos River Clean-up to the membership meeting the following week.

Ms. Wiest said she would present the Fleet Captain’s report at the membership meeting so Mr. Ohrt wouldn’t have to type up the same report in two sets of minutes. She announced that she would also present 100-Miler (and other) awards at the same time. Ms. Leveen asked the board if HCC should set up a booth at the Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta the following Saturday. It was decided that we would not, but that we would ask those in charge to inform us about next year’s regatta in time for us to plan our participation.

Mr. Woodcock gave the Boatswain’s report. There was one new member, Arthur Schmidtt, for a total of 147 members.

Ms. Nissen reported on the programs for future meetings. Mark Andrus would give a presentation at the March membership meeting, Malcolm LeFevre would speak at the April meeting, and Dan Oko would speak in October.

Mr. Ohrt said he would give the Safety Minute at the March membership meeting.

Ms. Wiest reported that the club’s database was sometimes giving inaccurate information on member’s expiration dates and membership status, but said that the problem would be worked out soon.

Ms. Leveen said that Christy Long would stand in as Commodore at the membership meeting, and that Harmon Everett would substitute for Ann Derby as Sergeant-at-Arms.

Ms. Leveen suggested that Mr. Walters give a presentation in July about paddling in Big Bend National Park. Mr Walters gave a definite “maybe”.

Ms. Leveen adjourned the meeting.
