"The University of Houston will be all business Sunday night when it faces Fresno State in the Hawaii Bowl. "Woman Sentenced to Prison n for Fraudulently Obtaining Workers' Compensation Benefits" (Idaho)
"The United States Attorney’s Office announced today that Deborah Durand, a 55-year-old resident of Idaho, was sentenced to 15 months in prison, and ordered to pay $903,316.48 in restitution. Durand obtained total disability status. Special Agents from the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General obtained evidence that Durand was participating in many physically challenging activities including a lengthy three-day kayaking trip where she paddled approximately 30 miles in open ocean water..."

"Traci Lynn Martin’s record chase, down to the wire on the Great Lakes"
"December 11 looked to be a good day of paddling for Traci Lynn Martin, the 50-year-old kayaker who is attempting a record-setting journey on the Great Lakes. Having already circumnavigated lakes Michigan, Superior and Huron, Martin had got within 250 miles of her goal of setting a world record for distance paddled on a surfski in a single season. On two separate occasions she was forced to issue distress calls when she was unable to get to land through thick swaths of pack ice on Lake Huron. The local Sheriff's Office indicated that a third rescue would result in the confiscation of her kayak..."

"Rob Macks uses his artistic background and eye for beauty and detail to build high-end wooden-strip vessels in his workshop. His designs are inspired by aboriginal Aleut and Greenland hunters and fishermen who earned their livelihood from the sea.

"Next year's regatta season for local canoe clubs may be in jeopardy because the parent association is having trouble finding an insurance company to cover them. The Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association's current insurance policy is set to expire in two weeks, and paddlers say the group is having trouble getting coverage because of lawsuits from past accidents involving escort boats..."
