Description:

  Amanda Anderson

   Wilson's Plover

Amanda Anderson works with the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory (GCBO). Amanda attended graduate school at the University of Houston-Clear Lake where she researched American Oystercatchers breeding on the upper Texas Coast. She continued her work with Oystercatchers in Florida, but returned to Texas several months ago. She is passionate about saving and protecting our coastal nesting birds, in particular the Wilsons Plover. She has been hard at work at the Matagorda Bay Nature Park and Bryan Beach and coordinating protection measures with volunteers and other agencies. Amanda will be discussing the progress that has been made with beach nesting birds since the project began in April.

The GCBO is working to increase the protection and public awareness of beach nesting bird populations that were affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. This includes Black Skimmers, Wilson’s Plovers, and Tern species.

Come on out and hear how we as concerned paddlers, conservationists and environmentalists can help!

Be sure to set this date aside on your calendar, then come out and support your club.
