"Kayaker completes 420-mile adventure in the Gulf" (Florida)
"Pine Island's Nathan Jangraw picked an unusual mode of transportation to get back home from college this winter. He kayaked. Jangraw paddled 420 miles by himself from a state park near Tallahassee. The 20-year-old spent 18 days, including Christmas Day, paddling his yellow 17-foot kayak in the Gulf of Mexico. Jangraw, a University of West Florida senior, ran out of water at one point and had to use a makeshift desalinator to turn seawater into fresh water..."

catch he'll never forget -- a dog swimming for his life off the Siesta
Key coast.
What initially seemed like a bizarre rescue actually took place following a horrific tragedy, when a drunk driver fatally struck the dog's owner in a hit-and-run accident approximately one mile from the shore..."

"Man fakes death in kayak" (Princeton, MN)
"The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a
kayak found on the west shore of Lake Mille Lacs. The kayak was found overturned with a gunshot hole near the back.
Inside the kayak was a firearm and a suicide note indicating Travis Scott took
his life.
"It appears that Scott left the kayak on Mille Lacs Lake, made his
way to shore and then flew a small plane to the outskirts of Winnipeg... The man was a suspect in an $8 million insurance fraud scheme.."

"N.J. man leaves friend to drown" (Berkeley, NJ)
"A New Jersey man has admitted leaving his friend to drown in
Barnegat Bay after their canoe capsized as they celebrated their high
school graduation. Authorities said the 18-year-old and childhood friend Ryan Worrall
had been drinking when they got in the canoe and it capsized on June 10. Murphy says he just went home..."

"Man tries to escape police by paddling" (Olympia, WA)
"A routine
domestic violence investigation ended with an unusual escape attempt
Monday when a Thurston County man tried to paddle a kayak to freedom
across Budd Inlet. The chase started around 3 p.m. when detectives
investigating a protection order violation showed up at a home on Budd
Street NW, according to Thurston County Sheriff's Lt. Greg Elwin. The
man fled out the back door toward a beach and launched a neighbor's
kayak into Budd Inlet..."
