Update to the Change at the Lake Charlotte Gauge

As described in an earlier post to the HCC Paddling forum, updating of the method used for reporting data from the U.S. Geological Survey’s gauge at Lake Charlotte from the old NGVD29 system to the newer NAVD88 system has resulted in what would appear at first glance to be a drop of several feet in the water’s depth. Now that data from the time of the change-over have gone through the USGS approval process, some additional adjustment has been made. The date of the change-over has been set at October 1, 2022, and the magnitude of the shift is -6.15 feet. This means that a current report of 2.00 feet would be equivalent to a value of 8.15 feet in the older system, to which many of us have become accustomed.
