Louis Aulbach has passed
Author Last Post

Well, this is a sad, sad day. I think I will speak for many in the club when I say that, regardless of how much time we may have spent with Louis, we're all sorry we didn't spend more.

I am so sorry to hear about Louis. Louis was a stalwart member of HCC when we first joined in the mid 80's. He was Treasurer for quite a few years for the club and the Rendezvous. Louis was always available for questions about paddling, Big Bend and more and willing to share his expertise. His guidebooks were and are indispensable and his history books were long on factual details and enjoyable.

Louis was a nice man as well. We will miss him.

With very sad heart I am relaying the message from Linda Gorski that our longtime friend, Buffalo Bayou, Rio Grande and archaeological scholar and author Louis Aulbach has died. At the memorial for another HCC longtime member Barry Bennick I so enjoyed seeing and chatting with Louis. He was promising to lead a Buffalo Bayou trip this spring as he recuperated from his battle with cancer. All seemed to be improving but alas, took a turn for the worst.

I extend my sympathies to his longtime collaborator, Linda, and all those friends from his many interests - and particularly to his children and grandchildren.

I will share memorial or remembrance details as I know them. RIP Louis.
