Paddling over the next few weeks.

This Saturday and Sunday: If you are attending the Hidalgo Falls Texas River Festival, be sure and let me know if you participate in any of the paddling trips. I'll be leading the Navasota River trip tomorrow, and there will be other shorter trips Saturday and Sunday.

Next Saturday (October 16): Lost River 50 race, Cutoff and Lost River recon. This will be a touring pace recon of the Cutoff, Lost River and Lost River Lake sections of the Lost River 50 Race. The purpose of the trip is to let any of you who are planning to do the Lost River 50 have a look at the places that are most likely to get you lost in the Delta. It's also a great recreation/birding paddle and tracks closely with the Old River CBC.

Saturday October 23: The Lost River 50 and the Lost River 10 races. Race either 10 miles or 50 miles, starting at Lake Charlotte (Cedar Hill Park) around the various waterways of the Delta, ultimately returning to Cedar Hill Park. Registration closes October 17 at midnight, so if you've been waffling, you can join us on the 16th to help make up your mind.

Saturday October 30: Join us on the Brazos west of Calvert for a 20 mile trip from FM 413 to FM 979. This is a geological showcase, including an exposure of the K-T Boundary, three shoals with major limestone exposures, and fascinating fossil material including giant leaf impressions in the rocks. Put in and take out are both reasonably easy.

Saturday November 6: A 13-mile adventure into a seldom paddled segment of the San Bernard River, From Bates Allen Park to FM 1096. This is a recon trip to make sure it is manageable for the Wharton Peach Creek CBC. The put in is easy but the take out may be a bit challenging. This trip may involve substantial log hopping and short portaging.
