Landfill Proposed at Peach Creek
Author Last Post

Potential Land Contamination ■ The site, located between Conroe and Cleveland, is immediately adjacent to Sam Houston National Forest and in close proximity to Wood Duck Farm, a supplier of sustainably-produced fruits and vegetables to regional farmers’ markets and restaurants

Potential Water Contamination ■ Local residents rely on well water ■ Project is located within one foot of the (2010) 100-year floodplain of a Peach Creek tributary ■ Peach Creek flows through Lake Houston Wilderness Park, used by many for wading, canoeing, and kayaking, then on into Lake Houston, a major source of drinking water

Access Road ■ Is only partially paved ■ Would have to be upgraded and maintained, at great cost, by San Jacinto County ■ Projected truck traffic of 168 round trips per day would pass through residential areas where children wait for school buses

Applicant Firm ■ PC-II, LLC is based in Mississippi, with no previous experience operating a landfill in Texas
