The communities around Birmingham, Alabama have gotten behind protecting their river in a big way. Their annual Fry-Down cook-off and festival has gone virtual this year, with presentations from the cook-off teams and lots more about the river. In addition to having more species of fish per mile than any other river in North America, the Cahaba is also a primo paddling river and a major source of drinking water for the city of Birmingham (not to mention for the Cahaba Brewing Company). The Fry-Down Grand Finale will be streamed live online at FRYDOWN.COM from noon till 4:00 PM on Sunday October 3. (They are in the same time zone as Houston.)
This is also a chance for us to get in the mood for our November 10 HCC program, which will be given by Gordon Black, Education Director at the Cahaba River Society.
