Many of us have enjoyed looking up at the night sky during river trips. Tonight (August 11) will be a chance to see one of the largest meteor showers of the year, and it will be covered as a live stream from the McDonald Observatory in west Texas. You can join the live stream via the Houston Sierra Club’s Outings Page at https://www.meetup.com/Houston-Sierra-Club-Outings/ or on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqN4xR-6gjA.
Here is the program description:
Join the McDonald Observatory staff for live views of the Perseid meteor shower on August 11, 2021 from 9:45-10:45pm central time. The Perseids are one of the most active meteor showers of the year, and peak between August 11th and 13th. In addition to live views, we will discuss the origins of meteor showers, their relationship with comets, and much more.
Hosts: Stephen Hummel and Saul Rivera, McDonald Observatory with Dr. Anita Cochran, UT Austin Astronomy Department
Moderators in the live chat will be taking questions, and the host will take more at the end. Can't make the live stream? This event will be recorded and remain on the channel.
