As part of ongoing work to maintain the Texas Paddling Trail on Buffalo Bayou, a group of river scouts visited a whole series of access points from Hwy 6 down to Sabine Street on November 6. Along the way, photographer Mark Mulligan from the Houston Chronicle caught this image of them surveying conditions at the Woodway Memorial Park site. And it ran on the front page of the Sunday November 15 edition!

Pictured (from left to right) are: Natalie Wiest (HCC), Sarah Bernhardt (Bayou Preservation Assn.), Carolyn White (Memorial Park Conservancy), Bruce Bodson (HCC, Bayou Preservation Assn.), and John Bartos (HCC, Bayou Preservation Assn.).

The photo ran in conjunction with a story about the Army Corps of Engineers’ Interim Report on the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study, which includes plans that would potentially have catastrophic effects on the Paddling Trail. The deadline for members of the public to submit comments on the Interim Report is November 20. If you haven’t commented already, you can learn more at https://thcc.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=2155&club_id=496051&item_id=1077226 and send in your comments by email to BBTRS@usace.army.mil
