Flooding Study for Cypress Creek and Buffalo Bayou...
Author Last Post

Following the Conservation Committee report at the July 8 meeting, there was a question about flood control measures for Cypress Creek.  As I mentioned, larger rain events can trigger overland flows out of Cypress Creek to the southeast into tributaries of the Addicks Reservoir (Langham Creek, Bear Creek, and South Mayde Creek).  This means that Cypress Creek is tied directly into the larger issue of flooding along Buffalo Bayou, which receives the releases from Addicks Reservoir.

When I checked on the current situation, I found that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently in the scoping phase of the “Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study”.  You can find out more about this at the study’s website.  From what I could tell, the Draft Report is expected out later this summer.  This will be followed by a public review period.

I would encourage interested HCC members to follow developments on the Resiliency Study's website, and to provide input when the review period opens.
