Christmas Day Paddle
Buffalo Bayou, Loop 610 to Allen's Landing
December 25, 2020
by Frank Ohrt

Eight hardy (and chilly) paddlers turned out for our annual Santa Hat paddle. It was cold early on, but warmed up nicely and turned into a lovely warm day. The bayou was running nicely at 199 cfs, so those who wished to conserve energy could “go with the flow”. Many did.

We stopped for lunch at the Dunlavy St. “put-in”, which used to exist, but is now a steep, muddy bank. The hearty (or stubborn) heaved their boats up, while the wise stayed in their boats and ate on the water. All agreed that it beat another stupid turkey with a bunch of dumb relatives, and no one had to eat sweet potato casserole with melted marshmallows. The trip coordinator declared that turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce were pretty good, if you’re hungry.

Many “Merry Christmas” greetings were exchanged with joggers and dog walkers, and we managed to get to Allen’s Landing without losing anyone.

Who knew that Harmon knew ALL the words to “The Twelve Days of Christmas”?
