Celebration of Life: Fraser Baker
Author Last Post

I often re-tell the story Fraser once told me about his time in California. He kept a guitar in the corner of his living room, I’m uncertain whether he played it but the little boy next door often came by and picked it up. One day Fraser just told the boy to keep it. Turned out the boy was Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses fame. The guitar appears on one of their album covers.

Very few people will remember this. But Fraser was also the original newsletter editor and web master. As a computer hobbyist, he ran the HCC web site from his own computer and network. And hosted the newsletter using his own editing software. When I first started as newsletter editor in 2009, I was using his system to do it. Then a year or two letter we switched to the commercial web page host Club Express. Fraser was an all-around great guy, who made many contributions to the club. I fondly remember our Pecos expedition trip, and many Columbus Loop paddles.

Correction: Fraser was our Commodore in 2002, taking over from Jim Null in 2001. Sorry for the typo.

Many of us "oldtimers" remember Fraser Baker, our HCC Commodore in 2022. He was always a lively sort along with his wife Janice and I enjoyed many trips with them back in the day. I am sorry to note he has passed away. A celebration of life for Fraser will be at Sammie J’s at 9717 N. Houston Rosslyn Rd will be held on Friday March 29 from 3pm till 8pm. You can join his friends and family for the entire time or whatever time works for you.
